Use: Antibiotic - narrow spectrum penicillin
Flucloxacillin is a narrow spectrum antibiotic that has specific activity against pencillinase-producing bacteria. These bacteria are responsible for antibiotic-resistance amongst certain skin, chest, and soft tissue infections. Therefore, flucloxacillin is indicated mainly for these type of infections.
This medicine is well absorbed in the stomach therefore is best taken on an empty stomach unlike most other antibiotics.
Cautions:
- Allergy to penicillins
- Kidney and liver impairment
- Breastfeeding and pregnancy (discuss with doctor)
- Jaundice
Side effects:
Occasional: stomach upset and skin rash
Blood disorders, kidney, and liver damage have been reported in rare cases.
Interactions:
Excretion is delayed by probenecid.

- Follow the instructions on the label of the medicine or as directed by your doctor
- Always complete the course of antibiotics unless directed by your doctor, or a skin rash develops
- Food: taken on an empty stomach (one hour before or two hours after meals)
- Alcohol: Little problems in moderation
